Andrew Lloyd Webber's new musical: Stephen Ward

Named after the free-living society physician who found himself at the centre of the government-toppling Profumo scandal that rocked the country in 1963, Stephen Ward is a sexy, sensational retelling of a pivotal story from recent British history – a story that helped pave the way for the sixties social revolution that followed it.

The show’s score is a fascinating and welcome departure for Lloyd Webber, featuring, as it does, period-specific pastiches of musical styles including jazz, swing, skiffle and early rock.

Show Opens 3rd Dec 2013.

We don’t need to tell you that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s first all-new musical since Love Never Dies in 2010 is a major theatrical event. Not least because it reunites the composer with his Tony Award-winning Sunset Boulevard collaborators, playwright Christopher Hampton and lyricist Don Black as well as the unstoppable force that is Tim Rice.

Tim Rice is best known for his collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber, with whom he wrote Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, and additional songs for the 2011 West End revival of The Wizard of Oz. He has also won numerous awards including a Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song for Disney’s The Lion King.

Andrew Lloyd Webber is the world's most successful composer of musicals, with The Phantom Of The Opera, Cats and Evita just three of his many globe-straddling hits.

Stephen Ward has all the ingredients to make for a truly spectacular musical.
